Peppermint Pinwheel Block

AHHHHH !!! I love this! ………. I love anything that looks like peppermint candies. I particularly like the clean and simple lines . This was  designed using the Dresden quilt ruler. ( Better have mom order some, maybe she has some already). So if you are looking for a new idea for a christmas quilt or just a great winter quilt maybe this will tickle your fancy. Happy sewing everyone!!!!   Click here for tutorial.

Patch Work Sewing Machine Cover Tutorial

Out of all the sewing machine covers I have seen this has to be my favorite so far, but I can also imagine it as a cute wall hanging for a sewing room! First I need to work on getting a sewing machine ( fingers crossed and hopin’ santa will bring me one:}) I always borrow my mom’s machine or go to her shop and break hers, I mean use her machine there. Second I need a sewing room :} It is so cute maybe I will make one just to look at! Enjoy everyone and I will eventually get to posting some holiday tutorials. I just can’t help myself I get side tracked !  Click here for tutorial. SEW JOYFULLY!

If anyone has any great tutorials they would like us to post or any other suggestions, ideas, or just want to say hello please email us at  www.myheritagefabrics@gmail.com and type SUGGESTIONS in the subject box.,

Fat Quarter Idea

If you have a lot of fat quarters just sitting around wondering what to do, cut them into standard size scrap and be ready to use and enjoy any of the number of patterns and tutorials designed for pre-cut fabrics.

Check out this diagram with directions on how to cut a fat quarter with no waste: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dreamthinkergal/7057136651

PS–If you find that your fabric is a bit narrow, start with the 10″ & 5″ charms & if there’s not enough for the full 2″ strip it can go in your string bin!

Thanks to Crystal for sharing her ideas!

End Zipper Fear

Many sewers, beginning and advanced, have zipper fear.  Here are a few tutorials that might help you get over that phobia and discover a whole new world of sewing happiness.

This one is a video tutorial from Riley Blake.

Or this one from the lovely people at Sew Mama Sew.

And, this one from Sew Serendipity (she writes a great book too, which we have in the shop).

So, just get out there and zipper.  You’ll be glad you did!

Crafty Weekend: Cupcakes

We have this great new Cupcake fabric in the shop. And there is a panel and makes the cutest apron.

Anyway, that got me to thinking about all the great cupcake ideas that are out there.  Check out a few of them:

A mini-cupcake pincushion

A cupcake purse

And, a cupcake coin purse

OK, one more.  Sewn cupcakes that are just…well…cupcakes.  Cute for decorating and minimal calories.

Crafty Weekend: Christmas in August

Here are a few ideas to get you started on Holiday Sewing:

Stitched Christmas Cards (OK, they are shown using paper scrap, but my fabric scrap would volunteer!)

Christmas Tree Skirt from Crazy Mom.  I really like the original look and shape of this one.

and Stockings, to match the skirt, of course.

And,  a spectacular no-sew option:  Kanzashi Christmas Tree.

Merry Christmas Tree

Crafty Weekend: Flannel

We have so much beautiful flannel in the shop it made me want to share some flannel ideas with you.

Like this Ric-rack Receiving Blanket from Sew-much Ado (we do have the jumbo ric-rack, too).

An elegant Flannel Scarf suitable for children or adults, men or women, just swap the fabric out.

A Flannel Quilt.  She has used recycled shirts, but you can cut squares, or use some of our pre-cut squares.

Cloth Diapers are an idea, and look so nice.

So, get sewing!

Crafty (NO SEW) Weekend

Even non-sewers love fabric.

And even sewers sometimes need a break.

Check out these great ideas:

A Fabric Wreath (can you say “one for each season yes please”)

Fabric Covered Boxes , which can be custom sized to fit any space or occasion.

Scrap Head Scarf, suitable for anyone who needs their hair out of their eyes and wants to look fashionable and cool doing it.

No-Sew Curtains that really look good and just might teach you a new technique.

Sew or No-Sew, you’ll still need fabric.  See you in the shop!
