Tie One On

Celebrate National Tie One On Day – November 25th

Participation is simple.  On the day before Thanksgiving, pause in the preparation of your own meal, wrap a loaf of bread or other baked good in an apron, tuck a note of encouragement in the pocket,  and deliver the wrapped bundle to someone: a friend, or family member in need of physical or spiritual sustenance, a bit of recognition or just a kind word.
You can learn more–press releases, national sponsors, etc–right here.
Just to give you a few ideas we have a lot of apron patterns in the shop, or check out these apron tutorials on-line, like this pattern from 1959!
Here is my favorite bread recipe as a suggestion–it makes two loaves:

Wheat Bread

2 c warm water (or milk)

1/3 c sugar OR 1/4 c honey

2 c wheat flour OR white flour OR quick oats

1 T yeast

1/3 c vegetable oil

1 T salt

1/4 c powdered milk (or not)

3 c white flour

Mix the first four ingredients in large bowl.  Let sit for 10 minutes.  Then add the remaining ingredients to make a soft dough.  Knead until smooth.  Let rise until double.  Split dough in half, form into loaves and place in greased loaf pans to rise.  Let rise again until double.  Bake at 375F for about 35 minutes.

 NOTES:

You can add more wheat flour or make all white.  Works well with quick oats also.  If you have milk that is starting to sour, it makes very good bread.  Can use fresh milk or water/powdered milk. Can double to 4 loaves.

The deepest poverty would be to have nothing to give–join us in this simple gesture of caring.
